The Korea Institute of Materials Science (KIMS) began technology cooperation with seven ASEAN countries including Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Cambodia, and Laos. The ASEAN-KOREA technology cooperation project is funded by the Korea Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MOFAT) and it will last until September 2011. The project is aiming to improve competitiveness of ASEAN industries through technical support in production efficiency, safety, and sustainable environmental protection.


■ Training and Consulting Contents


- 1st year: Focusing on Failure analysis for manufacturing/ Fabrication industry through the training courses in Korea and the consultancy activities of Korean experts in the ASEAN countries.


- 2nd year: Giving priority for petrochemical processing and power plants through the training courses in Korea and practices in ASEAN countries.


As a part of the project, representatives from the five ASEAN countries visited the KIMS from 7 to 11 December, 2009 to discuss details of the project.
