The Korea Institute of Materials Science (KIMS) developed 3MW composite blade for large size Offshore Wind Energy Generation Systems, and received the final design certificate from the international certificate authority, DEWI-OCC (Germany). Different from the previous blade technology supported by European design and technology, this 3MW composite blade was developed solely by domestic technology. It was a part of Sustainable and Renewable Energy Project funded by the Ministry of Knowledge and Economy, Korea. Length of the 3MW composite blade is 44m, and it weighs 9.6 tone. Compared to the European blade which weighs 11.2 tone, it reduces more than 10% of weight. Moreover, the standard wind speed of the blade is 50m/sec (class I) while the European blade marks 42m/sec (class II). The blade has been applied to the Doosan Heavy Industry's domestic wind turbine model, WinDS3000 at Jeju island from last autumn.
