KIMS was honored with a presidential commendation in celebration of the 56th Science Day

Recognized for outstanding achievements, highlighting "Science Day”

The Korea Institute of Materials Science (KIMS) employees, a government-funded research institution under the Ministry of Science and ICT, received government commendations to celebrate the 56th Science Day. Ji-hun Yu, a director of the Powder Materials Division, received a presidential commendation, while Byung-dong Hahn, a director of the Ceramic Materials Division, received a prime minister commendation. In addition, Jae-woong Ko, a principal researcher (Department of Engineering Ceramics in the Ceramic Materials Division), Heon-young Ha, a principal researcher (Department of Steels in the Advanced Metals Division), and Joo- hee Kang, a senior researcher (Department of Materials Analysis in the Materials Testing & Reliability Division), received commendations from the Minister of Science and ICT.

The Ministry of Science and ICT marked the "2023 Science and ICT Day" at the Korea Science and Technology Convention Center on April 21, 2023. The event was designed to promote the pride and honor of those working in the science and ICT fields by presenting a vision for the future of science and digital technology in Korea through government commendations. Science Day was established in 1968 to commemorate the foundation of the Ministry of Science and Technology on April 21, 1967. It was designated a legal holiday in the "Regulations on Various Holidays" in 1973. Since the establishment of the Ministry of Science and ICT (integrated with technology and ICT) in 2013, it has been holding commemorative events involving Science Day and ICT Day together as they almost coincide with each other.

"Making our country become a powerhouse in materials is our top priority," said President Lee of KIMS. "I am delighted that our efforts and accomplishments have been acknowledged on the occasion of Science Day, and we will continue to strive to contribute to the prosperity of our nation's future, building on today's recognition," he added.
