KIMS and KU sign an MOU to establish and operate the Department of Future Convergence Materials

Field and theory, Killing two birds with one stone!

The Korea Institute of Materials Science (KIMS), a government-funded research institute under the Ministry of Science and ICT, has partnered with Korea University (KU) to foster experts in future convergence materials. On May 26 (Friday), KIMS and KU signed an MOU agreement at the KU Main Building's Conference Room 1, attended by KIMS President Lee Jung-hwan and KU President Kim Dong-won. They promised to establish and operate the Future Convergence Materials Department course within KU's Graduate School of General Studies.

This MOU aims to jointly contribute to national development through research and development and the cultivation of high-level experts in line with Korea's science and technology policy. The newly established Department of Future Convergence Materials at Korea University's Graduate School of General Studies will launch a cooperative research system in which the Korea Institute of Materials Science and Korea University will conduct research and education together. The two institutions will jointly operate the academic administration and cooperative research, and students will work at the Korea Institute of Materials Science to gain field training opportunities and attend lectures at Korea University. Although the basic classes are taught at KU, KIMS advisors must teach one course during the entire coursework period (three years for the integrated master's program and two years for the doctoral program) to ensure that students receive high-quality instruction.

"Students will focus on research and learning in various specialized areas such as the development of extreme materials for ultra-high temperature materials, cryogenic temperatures materials, impact/collision environment materials, and ultra-high pressure hydrogen required in the aerospace, hydrogen, and shipbuilding industries, etc. at Korea Institute of Materials Science and Korea University.”and "KIMS will continue its efforts to discover various routes to expand human resources, such as resolving the difficulties in recruiting human resources faced by local Institutes and companies through the Materials Colloquium currently underway with Seoul National University and the installation and operation of the Department of Future Convergence Materials at Korea University.”
