KIMS published the White Paper to deliver useful information and open up new research horizons |
Korea's only materials synthesis is published to analyze materials technology to respond to the post-Covid-19 era.
The Korea Institute of Materials Science, a government-funded research institute under the Ministry of Science and ICT, has
published the ‘White Paper on Materials Technology 2020.’ Participated by the experts, it is the only material technology white
paper in Korea that systematically organizes information on materials. It was first published in 2009 and is now in its twelfth
year.
This year's theme is "Materials for the Post-Covid-19 Era.” In the 2000s, a number of national projects have been conducted
focused on the bio as a new growth engine. However, the current domestic biofield is still insufficient in international
competitiveness. If it had been supported by a continuous interest and active investment, rather than a quick supportive
measure due to the global trends, the COVID-19 vaccine could have been developed in Korea much faster than it is now.
White Paper on Materials Technology 2020 focuses on the proposition that applied science to improve the quality of life
of people can be dependent on basic science. This explains material technology can only achieve outcomes when there is
sufficient support and continued research based on long-term perspective and trust. In this regard, the white paper performs
an in-depth analysis on △defense and medical materials, △contactless environment and digital materials, △eco-friendly and
new energy materials, and contains global policies and information on R&D of promising materials for the next 10 years.
Lee Jung-hwan, the president of KIMS said, “Every year when we publish the white paper, we think deeply about how the
information in the book can be utilized.” "KIMS will do the utmost to convey useful information as well as to present the new
research horizons.”
White Paper on Materials Technology 2020, published as a book, is also available on the website of KIMS (www.kims.re.kr).
