Alink, KIMS’ spin-off company, completed production facilities construction in Jisa Industrial Complex in Busan

To become the first mover in the world air filter market

Alink, a specialized aluminum fiber filters manufacturer, built a factory in Jisa Industrial Complex in Busan and held a

completion ceremony on Thursday, November 11. Alink was founded by Dr. Hyemoon Lee based on the global source

technology for 3D aluminum coating which was developed by himself. The company is a spin-off of Korea Institute of Materials

Science, a government-funded research institute under the Ministry of Science and ICT.

Aluminum is widely used in construction, chemistry, and home appliances due to its advantages: easy to process, light, and

harmless to the human body. It also has a greater degree of oxidation than that of other materials when heated with high

temperatures. Alink handles fine dust removal conductive filter material and module, and conductive fiber for flexible

electronics and wearable healthcare devices on based of its world's first and only aluminum ink manufacturing and coating

technology.

The “aluminum fiber filter” coated with aluminum nanostructure on a general non-woven fabric filter can efficiently block and

remove harmful substances such as fine dust, virus, and bacteria. The filter materials installed in air conditioners or ventilation

holes in large buildings such as department stores, libraries, and downtown studios can ventilate and blow air but cannot

completely remove fine dust or viruses and bacteria in the air. In addition, existing filters cannot be reused, so it generates

wastes. As the conductive filter module can be reused more than 6 times by cleaning only with air and water, it can lower

carbon emissions from waste filters to less than 1/33 compared to the existing ones.

Alink which settled in the Jisa Industrial Complex of Busan Technopark with its newly built conductive filter material production

facility has become equipped with a stable mass production system for conductive filter modules ranging from the production

of raw materials to the procurement of parts, assembly lines, and the quality verification system. Based on this mass

production system, the conductive filter module for air conditioners is being tested at the Shinhan Financial Center located in

Yeoksam-dong, Seoul in cooperation with S&I Corp., a building management company. It was verified that clean air can be

maintained indoors without an air purifier only with the conductive filter module applied to the conditioning equipment.

Jung-hwan Lee, the president of KIMS, said, “We are providing all-around support so that the technology developed at KIMS

can be commercialized by ourselves.” “I hope that Alink will serve as a stepping stone for more spin-off companies.” he added.

Hyemoon Lee, the CEO of Alink, said, “The world’s attention is focused on air filters due to the spread of the COVID-19. Based

on our aluminum fiber filter manufacturing technology, Alink will do our best to become the first mover to lead the world’s air

filter market.”
