KIMS President Jung-hwan Lee is elected as a general member of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea

For the development of national engineering technology!

Jung-hwan Lee, the President of the Korea Institute of Materials Science, a government-funded research institute under the Ministry of Science and ICT, was elected as a general member of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea (NAEK).

Jung-hwan Lee joined the Korea Institute of Machinery and Metals (KIMM, the mother institute of KIMS) in 1982 and served as the head of the Material Forming Research Center, the head of the Industrial Technology Support Division, and the head of the Senior Research Division. After Korea Institute of Materials Science (KIMS) was launched as a subsidiary of the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials (KIMM) in 2007, he served as the vice president and the president and contributed to raising the status of KIMS as an independent institute in 2020. He published 53 SCI-level papers and 5 books related to materials technology including Magnesium Alloy Precision Forging Technology (2015). He was recognized for leading the industrial development by settling down Korea's aluminum plasticity control forging technology, and for contributing greatly to the development of the Korean Society For Technology of Plasticity as the President of the society.

President Lee said, “I am very pleased and grateful for becoming a member of NAEK.” “To realize the vision of NAEK, a global engineering technology platform that pioneers the development of the nation and mankind, I will spare no effort with all my abilities.”

NAEK, a special corporation, was established to discover and extend a courtesy to engineers who have made significant contributions to technological development in universities, companies, and research institutes; and to contribute to the nation's creative engineering technology and continuous development through academic research and support programs related to engineering technology.
