Korea Institute of Materials Science (KIMS), a government-funded research institute under the Ministry of Science and ICT, completed the construction of the new Welfare Building (Mirae Hall) and held a ceremony for the completion on Tuesday, April 26 in front of the new building.

In attendance of about 100 people including Changwon Mayor Heo Seong Mu, Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute President Myeong Seong Ho, Gyeongnam Technopark President Roh Chung Shik, Gyeongnam Employers Federation Chairman Lee Sang Yeon, and executives of the KIMS, the event was held in the order of business progress report, commemorative speech by the President, congratulatory remarks from guests, and tape cutting ceremony.

The new Welfare Building was built with a total cost of 13.5 billion won and has 6,383 square meters of a total floor area with one basement floor and eight floors above ground. Its 90 dorm rooms, 4 guest rooms, and convenience facilities for employee welfare such as a restaurant, workplace nursery, and gym are expected to improve the working environment for the researchers.

Lee Jung-hwan, the President of KIMS, said, “The old Welfare Building had contained the youth and passion of our researchers for the long history of 39 years. I sincerely hope that the Mirae Hall will also pass on our history and become a new space for the dreams and passions of young researchers, who are enthusiastically working for the great research achievement.”
