KIMS and Changwon held an expert advisory meeting for hydrogen industry development

Hydrogen shapes the future of Changwon!

The Korea Institute of Materials Science, a government-funded research institute under the Ministry of Science and ICT, cooperates with the city of Changwon to find a solution of the difficulties that hydrogen companies have and to seek direction for the city's hydrogen industry policy. The two organizations held an expert advisory meeting for the development of the hydrogen industry to discuss the industry’s future direction in the seminar room of the Research Building 1 of KIMS on Tuesday, June 21.

The meeting was attended by the National Assembly member Young Sun Kim (People Power Party), Changwon’s Mayor-elect Nam-pyo Hong, the President of KIMS Jung-hwan Lee, the President of Changwon Industry Promotion Agency Jeong-han Baek. For a hydrogen expert presentation, Jin-nam Park (the Program Director for Clean Hydrogen of Korea Institute of Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning), Young-mo Koo (the Director of Hydrogen Mobility R&D Division at the Korea Automotive Technology Institute), Dae-woon Jeong (the Professor at Changwon University), Seung-gun Lee (the Head of Department of Research Planning at KIMS), and Young-taek Kang (the Head of Hydrogen Industry at Changwon Industry Promotion Agency) were in attendance.

Hydrogen experts made presentations and had discussion: (i) domestic and foreign hydrogen policy trends and clean hydrogen strategy, (ii) policy comparison with Changwon’s hydrogen policy implementation status and other local governments, (iii) domestic and overseas hydrogen mobility trends and Changwon’s plan to promote them as a key industry, (iv) waste to energy conversion project and government-driven hydrogen expert training, (v) hydrogen production demonstration, related material development and test and evaluation. The participants recommended Changwon, Korea’s representative hydrogen city, respond well to various changes in the future, promote independent projects incorporating new technologies, and promote hydrogen as a key industry in Changwon.

Jung-Hwan Lee, the President of KIMS, said, “The expert advisory meeting is to examine the current status of Korea’s hydrogen technology and to grasp the policy trend of the government and global market for seeking the response direction of Changwon. I hope that the meeting guides an excellent research direction that will open up the future of the domestic hydrogen industry.”
