Dr. Junghwan Lee of KIMS was appointed the first president of the institute under the independent status.

Korea Institute of Materials Science(KIMS) used to be a subsidiary of Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials(KIMM).

​

The bill dealing with rasing KIMS to the status of independent organization passed the National Assembly last April      

​

​and they are ready to start their organization with the new status now.
