Using profile ring rolling, the Korea Institute of Materials Science (KIMS) succeeded in manufacturing large-sized (longer than 4m) ring used in the wind turbine's tower flange without welding process. This technology enables the KIMS to manufacture non-symmetric large-sized ring which has high level of difficulty in the world. The research was funded by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Korea and collaborated with UNISON Co. Ltd. Since the technology enables the KIMS to manufacture the ring without welding process, it reduces 20% of the manufacturing costs and 10% of air pollutant emission.
