A healthy, disease-free future society, Let's dream with children!

The Korea Institute of Materials Science (KIMS), a government-funded research institute under the Ministry of Science and ICT, held the 14th Gyeongnam Elementary School Science Imagination Drawing Contest on May 20 (Sat) at KIMS grounds in Changwon, Gyeongnam. More than 250 elementary school students from the Gyeongnam region participated in the contest, capturing their dreams of a disease-free and healthy future society on drawing paper. Grades 1 through 3 drew on the theme of 'free topic,' and grades 4 through 6 drew on the theme of 'Korean science and technology in the future to catch viruses,' which was presented by KIMS on the day.

KIMS also organized various experiences and events for the students and their families to enjoy. For example, KIMS set up two booths in the middle of the playground for events such as‘Solve the World's No. 1 Technology Puzzle',‘Find the Password of the Secret Box', and‘Take a Commemorative Photo with KIMS Characters', and another booth was set up for‘Safety Quiz' and‘roulette Event' to raise safety awareness, as well as a fire extinguisher, emergency evacuation, and CPR experiences using the laboratory safety experience center. In addition, researchers organized a science magic show for children, which entertained the eyes and ears of the participants.

"Anthony Brown, a world-renowned children's author, said that picture books are not just for children, but books that everyone of all ages should always have by their side." "Just as imaginative picture books contain many ways to communicate with the world, I hope that children's dreams and hopes captured in pictures can communicate with the world and be realized as soon as possible," said Lee Young-seon, Vice President of the KIMS.

The Gyeongnam Elementary School Science Imagination Drawing Contest, organized and hosted by the Korea Institute of Materials Science and sponsored by the Gyeongsangnam-do Office of Education and Gyeongsangnam-do Gimhae Office of Education is an event for elementary school students in Gyeongnam to express their dreams of the future scientific world through drawings. KIMS hold for the fourteenth time this year. After the contest, KIMS plans to deliver awards and prizes to 35 students through external judging, including the grand prize, gold, silver, and bronze prizes.
