KIMS and National Forensic Service signed an MoU agreement to reduce large-scale accidents in the domestic industry

Promise to cooperate in scientific cause analysis of major industrial accidents!

The Korea Institute of Materials Science (KIMS), a government-funded research institute under the Ministry of Science and ICT, signed an MoU agreement with the National Forensic Service to reduce serious and large-scale domestic industry accidents. The two organizations signed the agreement on July 10 (Monday) and promised to actively cooperate in research to more systematically analyze the material damage mechanism of major and large-scale accidents in the field of legal safety.

The National Forensic Service is a national institution under the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, which conducts various research, analysis, education, and training for scientific crime investigation, as well as appraisals and interpretations necessary for criminal investigations and identification of the causes of incidents and accidents. Since its establishment in 1955 as an analysis research institute having an important part in scientific investigation, the National Forensic Service has performed appraisals in various criminal investigation cases at various levels, such as the police and prosecutor's offices and courts. Also, they have contributed significantly to the scientificization of investigations by conducting experimental research and educational activities to secure scientific evidence.

With this MoU agreement as an opportunity, the two institutions will work together to nurture experts related to material analysis and evaluation in the field of legal safety and to strengthen research capabilities. The details of the cooperation are as follows: Material analysis/evaluation to identify the accident occurrence mechanism, if necessary, when responding to major accidents, Sharing of human and material resources, and promotion of joint research to strengthen mutual research capabilities on legal safety and major accidents in the industry

Dr. Jung-hwan Lee, the president of KIMS, said, “The purpose of this agreement is to more scientifically identify the cause of an accident in the event of an industrial fire or various accidents, and I hope the two organizations will work closely together to contribute reducing industrial accidents in Korea,”
