Yoon-jung Cha, a technical assistant at KIMS, acquired a certificate for authorized nuclear inspection

The first female authorized nuclear inspector in Korea!

Yoon-jung Cha, from the Department of Authorized Nuclear Inspection at KIMS, became the first woman in Korea who acquired KEPIC-MN, a certificate for authorized nuclear inspection. KIMS is a government-funded research institution under the Ministry of Science and ICT.

Authorized nuclear Inspectors are responsible for ensuring that pressure devices used in domestic nuclear power plants are safely made and operated according to technical standards during the manufacturing, construction, and operation process. To achieve this, the Korea Electric Association (KEA) established the Korea Electric Power Industry Code (KEPIC) to secure the safety, reliability, and quality of electric power industry facilities and equipment. KEA also provides training for related workers and manages and operates qualification tests.

The KEPIC qualification certification is a system through which the Korea Electricity Association evaluates and manages the qualifications of certain organizations and personnel to perform tasks prescribed by KEPIC, with the goal of ensuring the safety and reliability of power facilities, especially nuclear power plants.

Yoon-jung Cha is the first female authorized nuclear inspector in Korea in 25 years since the authorized nuclear inspector system was established. Since joining KIMS in 2017, she has undertaken various responsibilities, ranging from basic administrative duties to certified inspection contracts, in-house training, and certificate management. She began her studies in 2018, and over the past six years, she has attempted the certification four times before finally succeeding on her fifth attempt. Considering that only two people passed the test in 2022, the value of her recent success is even more significant.

Yoon-jung Cha stated, "I think I have finally taken my first step as a member of the authorized nuclear inspector," adding, "I will continue to challenge myself and study to obtain the remaining certificates."

Yoon-jung Cha, a native of Busan, graduated from Mandeok Middle School, Mandeok High School, and the Department of Naval Engineering at Pukyong National University.
