MOU agreement between AMDC participating organizations

Strengthening global cooperation through material data sharing!

The Korea Institute of Materials Science(KIMS), a government-funded research institute under the Ministry of Science and ICT signed an MOU agreement with participating organizations of AMDC(Asian Materials Data Committee) in line with the government’s current policy emphasizing global cooperation.

KIMS promised to strengthen global cooperation through material data sharing at AMDS 2023, a global symposium held at Bareumi Hotel Inter-Burgo DAEGU on October 25 hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology, bringing together representatives from Korea, China, Japan, and Vietnam.

AMDC participating organizations include (Japan)National Institute for Materials Science(NIMS, specializing in metal materials), (China)University of Science and Technology Beijing(USTB, focusing on metal materials), (Vietnam)Institute of Materials Science(IMS, specializing in electronic materials and VAST-composite materials), (Korea)Korea Dyeing & Finishing Technology Institute(DYETEC, specializing in fiber materials and composite materials), Korea Institute of Ceramic Engineering and Technology(KICET, specializing in ceramic materials), Korea Institute of Materials Science(KIMS, specializing in metal materials), and Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology(KRICT, focusing on chemical materials). Under this agreement, the participating organizations commit to cooperating in exchanging information on data construction, usage, and dissemination, and they plan to share trends in data held by each organization and cases of data use through regular international exchanges.

President Jung-hwan Lee of KIMS said, “We need to ensure that high-quality information can be used for materials technology development through global data cooperation in the field of materials,” adding, “We promise that all participating organizations including KIMS will do their best to make this MOU agreement a stepping stone for this goal.”

Meanwhile ‘AMDS 2023,’ which marks its 7th anniversary this year, is a symposium in which four Asian countries including Korea, China, Japan, and Vietnam, participate to share the status of materials data construction and usage cases and to realize the digital transformation of the materials industry. The 1st AMDS took place at KIMS in 2008. This symposium was held four years after the outbreak of COVID-19 and was attended by overseas researchers from world-renowned research institutes and universities in the field of materials, as well as many domestic industry-academia-research officials.
