KIMS acquired KOSHA-MS certification

“Excellent research based on safety as the top priority!”

The Korea Institute of Materials Science, a government-funded research institute under the Ministry of Science and ICT, has

acquired the Occupational Safety and Health Management System (KOSHA-MS) certification by the Korea Occupational Safety

and Health Agency (KOSHA). KIMS held a certificate and plaque awarding ceremony with labor and management in the main

building conference room on September 30 (Thursday) and promised to make efforts to establish

a safety culture for researchers.

KOSHA-MS, a domestic safety standard of KOSHA, certifies a workplace that has its safety system which allows preventing

safety accidents in advance by continuously removing harmful and risk factors through the PDCA (plan-do-check-act)

process.

In order to prevent accidents as well as to enhance the safety management status, KIMS has established and implemented a

safety and health management system that is higher than the standards required by law, thereby established a safety and

health management system that is at a leading level at home and abroad. The institution's efforts to upgrade the safety and

health system were highly recognized. KIMS established and implemented safety management responsibility plans and safety

and health promotion plans early as possible for each division, held monthly communication meetings on the subject of safety

and health set up by the president, and conducted quarterly safety inspections and training led by management.

Jung-hwan Lee, the president of KIMS, said, “As the importance of materials, parts, and equipment is increasing, we

undertook an important assignment as the only comprehensive research institute for materials in Korea.” “Since excellent

research outcomes come from the sound management and safety, we will pay close attention to even the smallest of things to

create a safer environment,” he added.

KIMS will persistently improve its safety system by continuously measuring performance and conducting internal reviews and

management reviews based on the 2021 Safety Management Responsibility Plan from the end of the year. Reflecting on the

results, KIMS will conduct a safety awareness and competency survey and analyze internal and external issues to be reflected

in the next year's plan and to establish safety and health management policies to further focus on the safety and health

management of the Institute.
