KIMS invited Dr. Jeongmo Lee, Director of Gwacheon National Science Museum to MK Forum

Learning the science of science communication!

The Korea Institute of Materials Science(KIMS), a government-funded research institute under the Ministry of Science and ICT, held the 2022 MK Forum (Materials Korea Forum) on Tuesday, July 19. Under the theme of the climate crisis and the future of Humanity, the forum explored the role of science and technology for mankind in a climate crisis.

The MK Forum aims to exchange opinions and provide a platform for discussion by exploring future technologies and industries with guest speakers from various material fields. Marking its sixth year, Dr. Jeongmo Lee, the Director of Gwacheon National Science Museum and a renowned science communicator was invited as a guest speaker. A science communicator is a person who makes people feel interested in and familiar with science.

Dr. Lee argued that science and technology need to offer a solution amid the increasingly worsening indicators of climate change, and suggested that researchers have to develop the ability to communicate with the public and the media for this purpose. He also emphasized that researchers themselves should actively communicate with the public so that science can naturally persuade them.

Jung-hwan Lee, the President of KIMS, said, “The goal of the MK Forum held by KIMS is not only to understand and accept the theme but also to put it into practice. To make all researchers become science communicators, KIMS will consistently do our best.”
