The Korea Institute of Materials Science (KIMS, President Jung-hwan Lee), a government-funded research institute under the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT), held KIMS TECHFAIR 2022 at the Changwon Convention Center (CECO) from Wednesday, Sep. 21 to Thursday, Sep. 22. for stakeholders of domestic materials and parts companies.

Organized by KIMS, hosted by Gyeongsangnam-do and Changwon , and sponsored by the MSIT and the National Research Council of Science & Technology, the KIMS TECHFAIR 2022 aimed to shed a light on the meaning of passing the government preliminary feasibility survey of the MSIT's project on construction of foundation for empirical research on extreme materials, to induce companies' interest in empirical research on extreme materials such as aerospace, hydrogen, and gas turbine power generation, and to lay the foundation for securing outstanding extreme materials. KIMS TECHFAIR has become the representative event of KIMS, which has been held for the 4th time since it was first held in 2014.

At the KIMS TECHFAIR 2022, a total of 86 technologies in each field, including 6 technologies of the world's top materials technologies owned by KIMS, were exhibited: 12 extreme materials technologies, 20 transport equipment technologies, 11 energy/power/battery/plant technologies, 7 display/electronic/semiconductor technologies, 9 aerospace/aviation technologies, 5 medical technologies, 3 defense technologies, △8 construction/environmental technologies, 2 mold/tool technologies, 9 industrial support technologies.

There were special sessions to listen to opinions on material technology, in addition to the technology exhibition. On the first day, the Materials Technology Innovation Symposium was held. Hwan-seok Choi, the Vice President of Korea Aerospace Research Institute, Yong-jin Song, the Vice President of Doosan Enerbility, and Beom-jun Kim, a professor at Sungkyunkwan University attended. On the second day, there were Technology Exchange Meetings with various themes including the Carbon Composite Material Technology Exchange Meeting, the 11th 2022 Extrusion and Drawing Symposium of the Korean Society for Technology of Plasticity, the Basic Materials Research Center Technology Exchange Meeting of Hyundai Motors, Future Powder Material Technology Exchange Meeting, and Magnesium Technology Exchange Meeting.

Jung-Hwan Lee, the President of KIMS, said, “In the shade, the sundial is of no use. I hope that our outstanding research outcomes are commercialized and industrialized so that excellent local companies can utilize them based on this event.”
